Frequently asked questions

How is overtime calculated?

Non-exempt workers earn at least 1.5× their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek. At $20/hour, overtime pays $30/hour.

Is overtime tax-free in 2026?

Not entirely. For 2025–2028, the federal government lets eligible workers deduct the premium portion of overtime (the extra half) up to $12,500 ($25,000 married) on their tax return. Social Security, Medicare and most state taxes still apply.
